Learn More about COUPLES THERAPY
Marcia Gomez, L.C.S.W. and Michael Basta, L.C.S.W. are Gottman Method Couples Therapists working separately in private practice in Sonoma County. They are members of the Gottman Institute (TGI), Marcia works as a consultant for the Institute (training couples therapists). Michael also works as a consultant for TGI and also works as a master therapist (training roving therapists at the Gottmans’ workshops in Seattle). Each has been trained directly by John Gottman, Ph.D. and Julie Gottman, Ph.D., the developers of Gottman Method Couples Therapy that is based upon the research of Dr. John Gottman.
Therapy starts with a rigorous assessment, including a 1.5 hour session with the couple, completion of a detailed packet of questionnaires by each partner (done at home), an individual session with each partner (either two separate 50 minute sessions or another 1.5 hour session divided in two parts), and a 1.5 hour feedback session. This assessment always precedes the start of couples therapy and has been shown to be effective in targeting a couples strengths/needs and goals.
Both Michael and Marcia charge $140 per hour (which prorates to $210 per 1.5 hour session). 1.5 hour sessions are the norm for this method of couples therapy. Neither Michael or Marcia are on any insurance panels, but are willing to complete paperwork so that a couple can get reimbursed if they have a PPO type insurance policy.
