Marcia Gomez, LCSW and Michael Basta, LCSW are Gottman Method Couples Therapists working separately in private practice in Sonoma County. They are both Master Trainers and consultants for the Gottman Institute (TGI) and have trained many therapists in Gottman Method. Marcia has introduced Gottman Method to therapists in several Latin American countries. Michael also works as a trainer of roving therapists at the Gottmans’ workshops in Seattle. Each has been trained directly by John Gottman, Ph.D. and Julie Gottman, Ph.D., the developers of Gottman Method Couples Therapy that is based upon the research of Dr. John Gottman. Marcia is bilingual in Spanish and provides therapy in both English and Spanish.
Marcia also offers Marathon Couples' Therapy which is a short-term intensive type of therapy. Its purpose is to help resolve your current crisis or a specific issue in the relationship. This therapy include a full relationship assessment, specific goals that the couple wants to work on during the time together. Marathon Couples' Therapy involves 3 consecutive days of intensive therapy. During the first day the couple complete 3.5 hours of assessment. Couple also has to complete and assessment package and have it done at least 5 days before the first meeting . ( Package is available on line by invitation or hard copy to do it at home). The second day the fist hour and half of focus on feedback session followed by treatment plan, therapy interventions. You will have 3 to 4 hours of therapy in the morning, a break for lunch, and another 3 to 4 hours of therapy in the afternoon. The session will be structured depending on the needs of each couple..
Both Michael and Marcia charge $150 per hour (which prorates to $225 per 1.5 hour session). 1.5 hour sessions are the norm for this method of couples therapy. However, both of them offer longer sessions for those couples that can not come on regular basis or live out of the area. Neither Michael or Marcia are on any insurance panels, but are willing to complete paperwork so that a couple can get reimbursed if they have a PPO type insurance policy. Leandra graduated from University of San Francisco with her Master’s Degree in Counseling of Psychology and is currently working as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern in a successful private practice. During her years working as a psychiatric nurse she found her most rewarding and healing work occurred with couples and families, which inspired her to go back to school to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. Leandra exclusively works with couples. She has completed Levels 1 ,2 , and 3 Gottman trainings and is actively working her way to becoming a Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist. She is currently being trained and supervised by Marcia J. Gómez, L.C.S.W. - LCS 18514 and Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapist.
